Italy dominated the Men’s and Women’s Team Pursuit Qualifying tonight (January 24) at the Hong Kong Track Cycling World Cup, as they qualified for the quarter-finals as winners ahead of seven other teams respectively.
Top eight teams at the qualifying stage advanced to the quarter-finals of the Team Pursuit event. Of the 14 participating Women’s teams, Italy claimed the top spot with 4 minutes 21.339 seconds, ahead of Germany (4 minutes 23.895 seconds) and New Zealand (4 minutes 25.140 seconds). Australia, France, Korea, Belgium and Canada also made it from the qualifiers. While Korea is the only Asian team making the quarter-final, the Asian record holder will face off with Belgium tomorrow (January 25) for a spot in the top four.
As for the 16 Men’s teams, Italy also outclassed their opponents as they clocked the best time at 3 minutes 57.660 seconds to qualify as winner. The other seven advancing teams are United States, France, Germany, Switzerland, Korea, Lokosphinx (pro team) and Australia.
